Guitar Lessons FAQs in Omaha
- What age should my kid start guitar lessons?
- Most kids are ready somewhere between 6 and 9. Age matters less than two things: can they follow multi-step directions, and do they actually want to be there? The real physical hurdle isn't age, it's finger strength — pressing down strings cleanly and switching chords without buzzing usually clicks around 8 or 9 no matter when a kid starts. We check readiness in the first lesson instead of turning anyone away over a birthday.
- Should we start on acoustic or electric guitar?
- Either works — the deciding factor is motivation, not technique. Acoustic strings are thicker and take more finger strength and callus-building, which can be rough on small hands early on. Electric guitars are usually lighter with lower, easier-to-press strings, and if your kid is into rock or pop, playing the "cool" instrument keeps them practicing without a fight. We teach both, so bring whatever you've got — or nothing — and we'll help you decide after the first lesson.
- Do I need my own guitar to start?
- It helps but it's not required for your first lesson. After your first session we'll help you find the right guitar for your budget and goals — acoustic, electric, or classical. No pressure, no upsell.
- How long until my kid can actually play a song?
- Most students play a real, recognizable song — actual chords, actual strumming — within the first few weeks of consistent practice. By 3 to 6 months, most are switching chords smoothly and playing along with music they already like. Some move faster, some slower, and both are completely normal — we pace it to the student, not a fixed curriculum.
- What if my child loses interest?
- It happens, and here's the truth: it usually means the lessons aren't connecting with what they love yet. We'll adjust the approach, try different songs, or match them with a different teacher. We'd rather fix it than lose them. (We've fixed a lot of them.)
- Is it too late to start guitar as an adult?
- Not even close. A good number of our Omaha students are adults — some picking up a guitar for the first time in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Adults often progress faster early on because they're self-motivated and don't need convincing to practice. Your first lesson looks the same whether you're 8 or 68: we meet you where you are.
- How much do lessons cost?
- Sessions are billed in 30-minute increments and sold in prepaid monthly packages. The total varies depending on how many students you're enrolling and how many instruments. Fill out the form and we'll walk you through all the options — no pressure, no surprises.
